Home Improvements

April 11th, 2009

Yeah wow a new post on the blog… I’m sure the spammers will be happy to see that since they’re probably the only ones who read this.. Been really busy with home projects lately. So far the bathroom has been remodeled and have ripped up the carpet to take it back to the original hardwood floors. One room is done two to go. Also have crown molding and lots more to do. Check out the pics in the gallery!

Revamping website

September 12th, 2008

Now that our ordeal with verizon and our internet being out a whole week due to their stupidity is done we can finally get underway on revamping our website.  We figured it was about time to pretty it up (my idea of course) a bit.  This will be an on going project throughout the winter.  We hope to have it done by spring but who knows it just depends on what we decide to do with it.

We plane to redo our photo gallery page and make it more user friendly(yup, my idea). We also plan to change the layout and possibly instead of one big picture on our front page have morphing pictures or random interchanging pictures.  Also plan on changing our color theme and making it less girlie and more neutral.

I have already added my vendor review of St. Lucia for all my lovely ladies on The Knot. I hope it will help many of you plan a honeymoon as wonderful as we had.

We know we want to make some other changes to our site but dang if we can figure out what they are.  Guess we are just gonna play it by ear.  Pretty much though I have a feeling I’ll come up with the design for it and what I want it capable of doing and hubby will make it work.  I always knew we would make a good team :)

Stay tuned and watch the changes unfold.

Married

July 13th, 2008

We are fianlly married and back from our honeymoon.  Our wedding was perfect and the honeymoon even better.  We went to St. lucia for our honeymoon and for those who have never been there you really shoud it’s absolutly stunning.

We have been busy since we have been back.  Kerry has been working on the mustang and I have been doing outdoor projects.  Other than that we have just been enjoying married life.

wedding update

September 11th, 2007

well the wedding is still 9mnts and 1 and 1/2 weeks away but we have made much progress.  all vendors are booked and honeymoon is booked.  kerry went to the garage on sun. which gave me ample time to complete a few more wedding related tasks.  i now have our save the dates complete (only took to trips to michaels to get supplies) i also got our photo signature mats for the guests to sign and also the gel wax to finish our center pieces.  hmm…maybe he should go away more often lol.  i have my hair trial the end of this month so i guess i better pin down just how i want to wear it.  other than that we will be cooling our heals till early dec. when it is time to send out the save the dates.  i am eagerly awaiting march which is when i start my dress fittings (which btw the dress is in and i have tried it on once already but did not bring it home because it will need quite a few alterations). well i guess that about does it for my first wedding related blog.  guess i will have to try to keep ‘em comming or else all anyone will have to ready are kerrys posts on website updates lol.

Picture Galleries are pretty much done

September 5th, 2007

Every picture we’ve ever taken (as far as we know) is now in the picture gallery. There’s only one more programming aspect I can think of that’s left to do and that is to come up with a way so e can change the order they are displayed. Have some ideas but will have to see how well they will work.

Site Update

August 19th, 2007

Links are now consistent on every page. There is a dropdown menu for the wedding page. They should remain consistent from here on out since the links are all stored in a file and each page reads the file and displays the links. Kristi you’ll have to post something here non geeky.

Woo Hoo Picture Galleries are up!

August 17th, 2007

Been working the past couple weeks on an automated picture gallery…. I found a lot of examples of automated picture galleries on the web but none did exactly what I wanted so I rolled my own :). There is now a link on the front page for picture galleries. We’re starting to upload all our pictures into them.
For the geeks:

The picture galleries were built from scratch using Samba, Perl, ImageMagick, MySql, PHP, and of course HTML. There’s a Perl script watching a hot folder. We simply map the drive in Windows and copy the High Resolution photos directly from the camera card into the hot folder. The Perl script reads in all the photos, runs them through ImageMagick to create a photo suitably sized for the web and another suitably sized for a thumbnail. All 3 photos are then uploaded into an upload table in the MySql database along with the file name, current date, and size of the 3 files.

There is a tool which allows one to add a gallery category. Each gallery category is stored in the MySql database along with the name of the gallery, a short description, and a picture to be displayed. Once a new gallery category is added it is automatically displayed the next time the Gallery Page is opened.  Anytime a photo is added to the gallery category, the timestamp is modified so it will display at the top of the Gallery Page.

Another tool displays all the pictures the Perl script put in the upload table as a gallery. When one clicks on a picture in the gallery, a form is displayed with the picture which allows entering a caption, selecting which gallery it is to go in from a drop down list, and entering a date when the picture was taken. It also timestamps newly added photos so new ones will always appear at the top of the gallery.

There is also a tool which allows one to select a gallery and change any of the info like the caption, gallery it is in, and date taken or completely delete the picture from the gallery.

I think it’s pretty much done. Only things I can think of is to setup the Perl script so it runs every minute, have the Perl script keep an archive of pictures uploaded in case of catastrophe, and fix the Perl script so it can handle file names with spaces. Oh yeah I guess we should figure out how to back this puppy up! Will be working on another Perl script to move all the Cruise slideshows into the picture gallery.

Goin Racin!

July 28th, 2007

Woo hoo tomorrow is the NEETS (Northeast Enduro Touring Series) race at Mahoning Valley Speedway in Lehighton. Have not done much racing the past few years. This will only be my second time there since 2004. My brother was so kind to loan me his Escort to take, wish I could take the Mustang! Not expecting to do very well but it should be fun.
